"So there was this time we were driving on the freeway when a truck drove by, splashing some mud on the windshield. So we were like 'ok, we'll just turn on the windshield wipers'. But all that did was smear the mud all over the windshield, and after that, we couldn't see at all and were just driving blindly at 120 km on the freeway!"

God, you will not imagine how hard I was laughing when I was told this story by one who shall remain nameless... I'm laughing right now just thinking about it.

So...

Such as it was, the trip up to the Winestocks' cottage was of great fun. I got a chance to enjoy the simpler pleasures of life such as swinging on a hammock, canoeing, playing the guitar, and eating nuts. I probably ate more nuts than anything else on the weekend seeing as how they were sitting in a jar out in the open. A few funky things happened like Grant making insane passes on the road, making a U-turn in front of a "No U-turns" sign, taking unorthodox routes to Cosmo Music, and Brett screaming out "I come from a land down under"... and this was all on the trip there.

The highlight of the trip was definitely our excursion up to Blue Mountain... which due to the season, was more greenish-brown than blue, but Grant was quick the voice out, "Well Jonathan, if they had to choose between the name 'Blue Mountain' or 'Greenish-brown' mountain..." and trailed off leaving me to finish the thought. But I digress. Blue Mountain is very pretty... at least the "Village" was. I didn't get to run up the mountain but from the sight at the foot of the mountains, it looked pretty good as well. But the Village was mostly what I was so impressed with. It reminded me of the streets of Quebec.

We were thinking about eating at "Skool" but Grant quickly pointed out that he wouldn't be able to eat properly so we settled for a restaurant across from Skool... some pizzeria. All in all, B.M. was a very cool place.

So...

So... well, this happened last night but by the time we got back I was close to passing out but I've discovered a new... joy in my life? I guess I wouldn't really call it a "joy" per se but something that I find comforting. Airports. Fabulous place; you meet all sorts of people there, most of which look happy cause they're either running off on a vacation, or they're coming back from vacation to their loved ones. Pleasant enough smell I guess, but it's that atmosphere there. It's usually better if you're at the terminal because you're going on a vacation, but going there to pick up family members is also good.

Which leads me to the next point. Picked up my mother and brother from Pearson International last night. We got there at 10:30 cause that's when they're flight was supposed to arrive... they didn't get out until 11:45. Why? Cause there were literally 18 planes that all landed at more or less the same time. First of all, that's a crapload of people who have to get off and furthermore, it's vacation time so that makes the planes really packed. Oh, and there were also only 9 turnstiles so the baggage got thrown all over the floor and stuff got misplaced and crap. The waiting area was packed too so I was wedged between all these people trying to find my family members. But speaking of my mother, as usual, due to her having so many friends in Singapore, she had return bearing gifts. Mostly there was stuff like bookmarks and flags and stuff (from the Singapore National Day Parade) but some of the more original items were things like a DVD of some classical/contemporary piano player called Maksim (who in the hell is this guy?!), and an M2M cd that I couldn't find here.

Oh and best of all, I GOT A SWORD!!!!! Well, it's not exactly real per se. Like, it's not sharp and I can't kill anyone with it but the blade's metal and it's retractable into this handle with a weird design. It's the kind of sword you see Chinese people use when they're doing their Tai Bo stuff in the park in early mornings... it was my grandmother's old Tai Bo sword and since she got a new one, she sent it back, saying I could have it. It's pretty heavy, being metal and all so I could probably knock someone out with it... just can't draw blood.

So that was yesterday... today was pretty cool too. It was actually today that I was presented with all the stuff listed above. Then came driving lessons where we did emergency manoeuvers (sp?) and freeway driving. In the evening, had the Plunkett man over where he tried to teach me how to play poker, which I was horribly bad at. Then E.C. showed up and started playing poker with G man whilst I text messaged Kay on E.C.'s cell phone, demanding she show up... she refused, making some excuse like she was in Kingston or something. Poker was followed by movie selection at BB (which got pretty funny), pizza, and we sat down to watch the original, 1974 version of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre... which was funnier than the new version, and less scary. The last scene of the movie was just the guy jumping around the road waving his chainsaw like a lunatic.

E.C. you left at a ridiculously inopportune time... there was like 5 minutes left in the movie and there was this last scene which you would have enjoyed. You know the dude from the beginning, who turned out to be the Chainsaw's brother or something? He got run over by a truck and his head popped off and blood was spurting everywhere... you probably would have enjoyed that...

And how is it possible that when I fry chicken, I put a small dallop of oil in at the beginning but when I finish frying, there's suddenly twice as much oil left in the pan?

Something to think about...

“Everybody loves a hero. People line up for them, cheer them, scream their names. And, years later tell how they stood for hours in the cold rain just to catch a glimpse of the one who taught them to hold on a second longer. I believe there's a hero in all of us who keeps us honest, gives us strength, makes us noble, and finally allows us to die with pride, even though sometimes we have to be steady, and give up the thing we want the most. Even our dreams.”
-- Spider-Man 2

Dah, we just had a 10 minute power failure in our area... only 10 minutes though. I was hoping for a Blackout 2004 where all of Ontario was knocked out like last year (Blackout 2003's 1 year anniversary was 2 days ago) but it was not to be. This isn't the first time the power in just this area has been knocked out... and as far as I can see out the window (not very far) the houses on the South and East side of ours have gotten their power back but the houses on the North and West side are still in complete darkness. Oh well, maybe next time.

So...

So... last day of camp and Friday the 13th... and Todd's birthday. Happy 18th dude, you rock on the drums and in life. Maybe it was Friday the 13th but the weather was bad considering we were supposed to head to the baseball diamond today. But it was pretty cool all the same, the camp and kids rock. And so ends another year at the Somerset Kids Camp, in some ways, it was better, in some ways it was worse. All in all, it averaged out ok and I've now become an avid bus-taker despite my dislike of public transit. But I simply didn't have the time to waste walking home EVERYDAY from camp.

~You soon find out that many things are possible as long as you don't know that they're impossible~

I remember I said this last year... and I still hold true to it. Never have I thought it more than at camp with the kids. They're so innocent, and they can do the impossible.

Oh, and thanks for the 2 hours conversation today, it goes a long way towards helping me sustain myself. You're the greatest inspiration I could ever ask for.

Went and saw Spider-man 2 today... and I thought it was fantastic, especially if you compare it to the first movie, which was good, but not exactly mind-blowing. The controversy and the way the plot practically destroy's Peter's life in the first half of the movie was very fitting for the turn around second half. The final scene was quite well done, although it sets the stage for Spiderman 3... and what exactly are they planning to shoot in S3? Besides blowing the Harry Osborne sub-plot into the main plot for S3, there really isn't much left to do. I mean, half the people in New York know who he is by the end of the S2. Ok, not really half the people, but MJ knows and a bunch of people from the subway know. It leads one to question why he went trampesing around NY for half the movie with his mask off.

Welcome to the planet
Welcome to existance
Everyone's here
Everyone's here

Everybodys watching you now
Everybody waits for you now
What happens next?
What happens next?

Dare you to move
Dare you to move
Dare you to lift yourself up off the floor
Dare you to move
Dare you to move
Like today never happened
Today never happened before...

Welcome to the fall out
Welcome to resistence
Tension is here,
Tension is here,
Between who you are and who you could be
Between how it is and how it should be

Dare you to move
Dare you to move
Dare you to lift yourself up off the floor
Dare you to move
Dare you to move
Like today never happened,
Today never happened...

Maybe redemption has stories to tell
Maybe forgivness is right where you fell
Where can you run to escape from yourself
Where are you gonna go?
Where are you gonna go?
Salvation is here...

Dare you to move
Dare you to move
Dare you to lift yourself up off the floor
Dare you to move
Dare you to move
Like today never happened
Today never happened
Today never happened
Today never happened before
